Biographical/Historical Notes
3Di Imagery to Mapping Ltd. started operations in 1987 as a member of the PDS Group of companies based in Virginia, USA. This group was purchased by 3di, a Maryland based mapping provider, in March 1999 and subsequently acquired by the current UK owners in July 2002.
The imagery is split into 4 components representing the contractors used for most of the UK projects undertaken by 3Di:
Simmons Aerofilms.
Other UK companies (BKS NI - WILD RC10/20/30, Cooper Aerial Services - Zeiss LMK, Graham Collins Associates - WILD RC10, Spectrum (Clacton) - Zeiss RMK-TOP15 and ADAS.
Helicopter work of UK locations, mostly using the then 3Di group in-house resources. Several roll-film negatives are held but some of the originals were sent to the USA for processing/printing and those have since been destroyed. This work used a Zeiss RMK-TOP 15cm lens equipped helicopter but in 2007 Photarc Ltd were contracted to provide some Zeiss UMK work on the Docklands Light Railway in East London, for which the original films are held.
Overseas projects where new photography was sourced from Kampsax Geoplan A/S (Denmark) for Berlin, Budvair (Czech Republic) for Prague and Photomap for Kenya.
