Biographical/Historical note
ARC-series sorties were flown by detachments of three photographic reconnaissance Spitfire aircraft of 1PRU (September-October 1942), 543 Squadron (September-October 1943) and 542 Squadron (March - May 1944) based at Vaenga airfield, Soviet Union. Their purpose was to carry out reconnaissance of the northern Norwegian coastline to locate and monitor any German warships operating from there.
